Summary: Life isn't perfect, but it's just enough to keep Dean Winchester happy.
Notes: Inspired by the summer weekly word association activity over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_bc. The word of the week was "thrill", the fic pretty much wrote itself. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] adevyish and [livejournal.com profile] beth_black for their help with the naming. ♥

Adrenalin
Prompt: thrill

It's the rush of adrenalin as he faces the werewolf that he knows is around the corner, silver knife glinting in his hands, his muscles tense and his heart pounding in anticipation of what was to come.

It's the feel of the cue in his hands as he takes aim and breaks the rack, the concentration required making him focus and relax all at once, his father's rumbling voice ringing in his ear, guiding him through the moves as he remembers all the times John taught his ten-year-old self how to play.

It's the memory of climbing into a ferris wheel after giving into his younger brother's endless pleading, his face white and fingers clenched as the amusement ride begins to move and the ground's suddenly rushing away from them and he's dangling helplessly, terrified by the height and lack of something stable under his feet, his yell suppressed only because his vocal cords are too wound up to make a sound. And the whole time, six-year-old Sam's inquisitive voice is chattering on like there was nothing wrong with being dangled two hundred goddamn feet in the air.

And most of all, it's driving down the highway at night in the Impala with the windows down and Sammy in the backseat, the wind streaming through his hair as ACDC blares from the radio and Back in Black pounds in his mind with the beat of his heart. Life wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty damn close for Dean.

I liked it too. Dean learned at a very early age, to take what was given to him, and enjoy it, because anything could be taken away in the space of a heartbeat.

MAN! This is just wonderful, how I really think Dean would feel this way. ♥.

Perfect! Dean, living in the moment, finding joy in everything he can because he never knows when it might be snatched away...*appreciative* of what he does have in a way that few people are.

Nice work.

That's why

I don't get on them. I'm with Dean you should never dangle in the air where your feet can't touch the ground and if you fall you die. Loved it.

Loved it!! There isn't many words but it says alot ^_^

I totally sympathise with Dean about the ferris wheel. I got on one once and was petrified so instead of letting me and my friend of when we should have, the evil conducter kept us on longer then anyone else!!!

Awesome! In older days, this is just how it was for Dean, with the open road. Great little ficlet, love the energy and movement of it. :-)
Cheers ~
