Harry Potter: Heat Of The Moment
Title: Heat Of The Moment
Author:
papered
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters/Pairing: Draco/Hermione
Rating: PG
Word Count: 860
Summary: If anyone had told Hermione Granger earlier that day that she would have kissed Draco Malfoy before going to bed that night, she would have happily pointed them in the direction of the infirmary.
Notes: Definitely late, but written for the St. Valentine's Day 7 Kisses Challenge; day 4: underwater kiss. Lyrics from Asia's (you guessed it!) Heat Of The Moment.
I never meant to be so bad to you
One thing I said that I would never do
One look from you and I would fall from grace
And that would wipe this smile right from my face.
Hermione yawned as she rubbed her eyes, finally finished with her revising for the day. Everyone else had long gone off to bed, and even her candle was burning low. Shutting her textbook with a soft thud, she walked past the window, glancing at the full moon before heading to the base of the stairs that led up to the dorms.
And paused. Suddenly ran back to the window.
It always surprised people that Hermione had such good eyesight, considering how much she strained them, poring over books. It had to be a genetics thing, she'd often thought. And now it was coming in handy.
Because someone was outside. In the lake. Swimming.
Students were strictly prohibited from going into the lake, for fear of getting trapped in the various semi-dangerous plants or disturbing the Giant Squid. They certainly weren't allowed to swim in it at 2am in the morning.
Quickly grabbing a cloak, Hermione rushed out the portrait hole. After all, it was her duty as Head Girl to make sure that the rules were enforced and misbehaving students were punished.
It wasn't until she was at the edge of the water and was clearly visible to the swimmer that she realized who it was.
Draco Malfoy.
But that wasn't all. It was a naked Draco Malfoy. A Draco Malfoy who seemed completely unconcerned regarding his state of undress and was currently swimming towards her, long arms quickly pulling him towards shore.
"Malfoy! Get out of the water, now!" Trying not to look flustered, she narrowed her eyes at the blond. "That's fourty points from Slytherin for being out after curfew and swimming in the lake. And improper attire."
He merely smirked at her before moving to step out of the water.
"W-wait. What are you doing?"
Those eyes laughed at her expense. "I'm getting out of the water, like you were telling me to, Granger. What's the problem?"
This was not the time to blush, but her cheeks were flaming before she knew it. "Where's your towel?"
A calculating glance and a sudden smirk made Hermione suspicious. "By the rock over there."
Cautiously, she walked towards said rock, keeping her wand in hand. Just like the blond had said, a white towel was neatly folded and placed on the smooth surface of the stone.
Retrieved towel now in hand, Hermione turned back to Malfoy. She walked towards him, trying desperately to keep her eyes fixed on the blond's face. So much so that she didn't even see his hand shoot out and pull until it was too late.
With a shriek and a splash, she fell into the water, robes and all.
The first thing she was aware of when she rose, sputtering and choking, was laughter. Draco Malfoy was laughing. The outrage that had been waiting to burst out of her died at the sound, and Hermione realized with surprise that this was the first time she'd heard the blond laugh without any hint of maliciousness in his tone. She would have expected there to be, considering the situation – but there was none. Just honest, amused laughter.
The next thing she realized was the arm around her waist that had pulled her up against the force of gravity. An arm that was connected to a bare shoulder. And a bare chest. And a Very Naked Draco Malfoy.
Malfoy seemed to be enjoying every minute of her discomfort, although his laughter had died down a bit. "I apologize, Granger – but your expression was priceless."
For the second time in the past two minutes, Hermione was shocked. She must have heard wrong. Because she thought she'd just heard Draco Malfoy Apologize. To her, of all people.
The moment stretched on.
She stared at him like a fool, in speechless surprise, still thinking that her ears must have failed her. For once, he didn't interrupt with a smarkass remark at her astonishment. In fact, he just looked at her, impossibly grey eyes suddenly piercing, waiting for her reaction.
Hermione was abruptly aware of how warm it was. The night was remarkably hot for early June, and her flushed cheeks were back with a vengeance, as if she had a fever.
And the arm that was still around her waist seemed to burn her skin through the thin layers of her drenched clothing.
They were standing much too close. Why on earth wasn't she pulling away and taking more points?
What happened next could only be called insanity. She wasn't sure who moved first, but before she knew what was happening, he was pulling her forward and she was actually moving towards him. Grey eyes met hers in an unspoken dare, and she stared back defiantly. Never let it be said that Hermione Granger backed down from a challenge.
Their lips met without hesitance, the kiss itself sloppy but intense. A small eternity passed, and Hermione pulled back, drawing in a gasping breath.
His mouth tasted like coffee and cocoa – slightly bitter with a hint of sweetness. Just like Malfoy himself.
As their lips clashed together again, her last thought was that as far as she was concerned, sanity was overrated.
It was the heat of the moment
Telling me what your heart meant
Heat of the moment shone in your eyes.
