Title: Poetry In Air
Author: [livejournal.com profile] papered
Fandom: Tsubasa
Characters/Pairing: Yuuko POV; Fay D. Flourite; Kurogane; Kurogane/Fay
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 550
Notes: For the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days April 1st prompt: "The smell of spring." I'm actually not even certain how this fic turned out the way it did, and the connection to the prompt itself probably isn't too clear, but my muse decided that this was what was going to get written. :)

The sakura trees are in full bloom, petals carried by the wind as their fragrance mingles with that of the fresh grass. It's a gorgeous day, the sky an azure blue – and off in the distance, the battle rages.

Mokona had called out to her in desperation, knowing that the odds were against them, and so Yuuko had appeared, but she has no misconceptions regarding her own role. She is no good-willed heroine, ready to help out of the goodness of her heart. If her assistance is required, a price will have to be paid.

Until then, she can only watch.

Syaoran stands protectively over his princess, weapon drawn and ready. But it's not him who catches her attention.

Just from appearance, the two makes a stunning pair – dark and fair, dawn and dusk, fire and ice – opposites in almost every way. The occasional petal clings to their clothing, an unlikely addition to their outfits.

The former uses a sword, his assaults as brusque and blunt as his personality. His strikes are swift and efficient, cutting down his attackers one by one with a proficiency that speaks of years of training. Each swing of the weapon is fatal, and handled with a carefully controlled precision.

In contrast, Fay is more subtle, all smooth dexterity and fluid grace. He prefers to dodge and defend, his attacks coming nearly as an afterthought, and yet his offence is no less deadly. The bow and arrows are handled with deft ease, the aim always true and unfaltering. His movements are light and quick, and with his fair skin and light eyes, his deceptive appearance makes him all the more dangerous.

One monster makes the mistake of underestimating the blond, ignoring him in favour of attempting to bring down the ninja. It realizes its error half a second later when an arrow pierces the center of its chest.

The duo circles around each other, always seeming to know exactly where the other is without needing to take a glance. Their movements are smooth and sure, falling into place like the steps of an intricate dance only they can follow.

At one point, there is a sudden pause in the fighting, and as Yuuko watches, red eyes meets blue across the field. Kurogane narrows his gaze, raising a brow. Fay's lips curves in response to the unspoken question.

And then the lull is broken, and the weapons flash again.

It's a dire situation indeed. The pair is strong and efficient, but their chances of defeating an army are slim. And looking at the unending enemy, an army is exactly what they are up against.

And yet. As Yuuko observes them, she feels quite certain that this time, her assistance will not be required. Whatever the outcome would be, these two would be fine, because they would stay together. They were a duo – not Kurogane or Fay, but a part of Kurogane-and-Fay – and in this world or the next, hitsuzen would keep them together. It was inevitable.

With a small smile, her decision is made. Yuuko turns to Mokona, asking that the communication window between this world and hers be closed. Mokona protests loudly, long ears swaying, but does as she requests.

Off in the distance, the sakura branches sway in the wind. And the fighting continues.

I like this! The description of Kurogane and Fay as a duo is very accurate, I feel. And, and. It's shiny :D

poetry indeed!!!

and it really does work for the prompt, just not literally.

yuko put it best; They were a duo – not Kurogane or Fay, but a part of Kurogane-and-Fay she noticed the change, the start of something new.

Oh I love the discription of them fighting together. Very accurate. One thing I've loved is how well they have fought together almost form the very begining.
