Title: Who Can Love You And Still Be Standing?
Author:
papered
Fandom: Twilight
Characters/Pairings: Edward, Edward/Rosalie
Rating: PG
Word Count: 200 words
Notes: Written for the Twilight Uncanon Drabble-a-thon.
It's not a fairytale, where the prince meets the princess and it's love at first sight. In fact, it's far from it. They'd had their chance – it had been encouraged, even – but he'd been thrown off by her independence, her tenacity that was so rare of a female from her time.
Now, a century later, she taunts him without realizing it, her eyes as fiery as they'd always been while Bella's are dulled with age. Until Bella, he'd been isolated from the world outside of his family, and the passage of time had been a foreign visitor. Only now does he take in the consequences of a humanity he'd once so loved. Human lives are so fragile, so short. They aged quickly and died early deaths, and the few who were fortunate enough (if it could be called that) to live longer – like Bella – did so without their minds intact.
But not Rosalie. (It always comes back to Rosalie.) Time has no hold over her, and it never will.
Decades pass before he realizes what a fool he'd been all those years ago.
Now, his days consist of a litany of it's too late now and she should've been mine.
+ Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
