In the mornings, there's music. (He's an early riser.) He turns the volume up to max, and the pounding of notes and voices in his ear is enough to (almost) drown out the rest of the world.
ii.
In the afternoons, there's a small café on the other side of campus. It's quiet,a little lonely, the way he likes it.
He nurses a small coffee, the paper cup warming his frozen fingers. Dark, one sugar, no milk. Outside, there are cars and people and traffic.
He thinks he can be content like this.
iii.
The boy reminds him of himself. Hearing the disjointed Chinese is enough to bring back memories of his own time in Korea. (Maybe that's why he bothers.)
The administration office is that way.
A surprised look; a flash of dimples. Oh. Thank you. You speak –
I'm Han Geng.
(It's been years, and the words taste a little rusty on his tongue, but he's still got it.)
iv.
At night, it's quiet.

If you're lucky, you'll meet a kindred spirit one day, his grandmother used to say, when he'd still been a little boy.
He'd believed her then, with all the strength and conviction of his childhood faith.
Over the years, he wishes he can turn back time and hear her words again.Just to make sure he hadn't imagined them.
vi.
What's your name?
I'm Siwon. I'm studying in China for a few years to improve my Mandarin.
Which part of Korea are you from?
The words come pouring out in a rush that leaves him dizzy. It's like he'd been thirsty all these years, but hadn't quite realized it until now.
vii.
This night, the quiet is gone. It's replaced by fleeting touches and chapped lips and groans muffled against his chest.
There's dark hair between his fingertips. He feels the press of a smile against his lips, thinks that (maybe) he can get used to this. And then he can't think any more.
viii.
This morning, the music is softer. It's an instrumental piece – tentative, quiet (maybe a little hopeful).
It's the stay he can't quite bring himself to say out loud.
ix.
This afternoon, there's laughter at his side and a shoulder against his own as he treks across the campus. Two coffees, he tells the waitress who greets them with a nod.
He's a quick learner. Two sugars with lots of milk and cream. Outside, there are cars and people and traffic.
He thinks he can be happy like this.
(x.
three months later. Their kisses are sweet, exhilarating, and he feels like the hormonal teenager he'd never been. He thinks he knows the words for this. They sit there, at the tip of his tongue, and one day, they'll tumble out when he least expects it. Authors wax poetry about when the time is ripe and the right moment, but Han Geng thinks that whenever it comes out, it'll be all of that and more (because Siwon will be there, and that's enough).
He's happy like this.)

I really love your writing style. You have a great way of expressing so many feelings without really having to explain anything.
Friending~ ♥

Thank you! I'm happy to hear you thought so, since I admit I usually tend to be on the wordier side when I write. I'm glad you enjoyed this!
