Title: And Here I Am Permitted To Be With You
Author:
papered
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: None
Rating: G
Word Count: 200 words
Disclaimer: Kripke owns everything from the Winchesters’ boots to our souls.
Summary: There are some things in life that Dean just can’t protect Sammy from. But he can try.
Notes: My first drabble, involving vision!Sam and protective!Dean. :) This fic was definitely inspired by Al Purdy’s Poem, which somehow seems to fit this situation in so many ways. Lots of shiny sparkles to
deanscookie for the read-over.
Breathless gasps, followed by violent, restless thrashing and pain-filled cries.
"Sam! Sam, come on - wake up! Sammy!"
It pained Dean to see his brother in the throes of yet another vision. It pained him even more that he could do nothing about it.
He'd always taken on the responsibility for Sammy. Since the night of the fire John had placed Sam in his arms, his brother had become his. Whether it was scraped knees or broken toys, Dean had fixed it all. When there were bullies, Dean taught them a lesson they would never forget. When demons came, he'd fought them off. He’d killed for innocents, and he’d do it again in a heartbeat for his brother. It was his job to protect Sammy, and he'd be damned if he didn't give his all doing it.
And if there was one thing Dean hated, it was being helpless. But Sam's inner demons were something he couldn't fight. He hated his inability to ease his brother’s suffering, but in the end, there was nothing he could do but wait for the visions and coiled fears to pass.
All he could do was to watch over Sammy and not go away.
